You are secure, settled and have been working a job for over 5-15 years. You are a faithful employee, always on time, pitch in to help, and even a problem solver at times. Maybe you are a manager, or have a high position with a full staff. One day you walk in to your office, only to find a note or voice mail from your boss marked important, "see me right away".
You began to wonder, what could it be? The thoughts of all your past actions flutter your mind, and you hurry to his office with the hope of being able to put out a fire. You softly knock on his office door and he signals you to come it. Without being rude, you act as if you are on an interview and stand until he offers you a seat. Why are you so tense?
He goes on to talk about your service to the company, and how you have been a great asset. Finally, he hits the nail right on the head and blurts out the words that you have dreaded to hear, " we have to let you go due to downsizing." What do you do? No matter if you are a woman or a man, anyone in this position goes through quite an ordeal.
So, my question to you - do you have a PLAN B? What is that? Plan B is a second stream of income that continues no matter what happens in the business world. It's a side business, it's developing your passion so that it become lucrative. Don't get stuck working on some else's vision - create your own steam. Don't get secure and comfortable with a check that someone else feels you are worth - build your own stream.
